OpenAI is tightening access to multiple paid ChatGPT accounts linked to the same payment card or device. Users who exceed the limits cannot start new subscriptions, while affected accounts may become unavailable on that device and display a “Device limit reached” message.

The restrictions apply to ChatGPT Go, Plus, Pro 100, Pro 200 and Pro 500. Free accounts, along with Business, Enterprise and Edu plans, are excluded from the device-account count. According to OpenAI’s support information, signing out of an account does not automatically make its slot available for another account.

The policy is likely to affect users who switch between several paid accounts on a single device to obtain more usage through lower-cost flat-rate subscriptions. Instead, OpenAI directs users toward additional credits or usage resets, which are generally more expensive than adding another subscription.

The change indicates a stronger focus on paid usage and revenue, following other moves that suggest OpenAI is placing greater emphasis on monetization than on expanding usage through multiple low-cost accounts.
