OpenAI is preparing an internal security sprint with Cathedral Systems, bringing the partner’s researchers together with its own teams to use AI models to probe and strengthen the company’s systems. OpenAI says Cathedral will contribute distinct expertise and approaches to identifying weaknesses in its defenses.
The company is also updating its Security Bug Bounty program, including raising rewards for critical findings by more than four times. OpenAI says it wants researchers to challenge its assumptions and help improve both its systems and its defensive methods.
The sprint builds on an earlier effort in which OpenAI dedicated 25% of its product engineers to finding and fixing system weaknesses. Using Codex, engineers investigated findings, reproduced vulnerabilities in isolated environments and prepared patches for review, according to the company.
OpenAI says it plans to use its most capable models to strengthen its own defenses and make them available to Daybreak customers. It has also committed $1 billion in subsidized access over six months for frontline defenders protecting essential services and digital infrastructure. The company says it will share its architecture, lessons from the previous sprint and a blueprint for supporting cyber defenders across industry and government.
