OpenAI has quadrupled its bug bounty payouts, with rewards for critical vulnerabilities in core products such as ChatGPT and Codex now reaching $30,000. Exceptional findings can earn up to $100,000, while additional quality, loyalty and campaign bonuses can bring the total to roughly $172,000, the company announced.

The revised program adds a five-tier loyalty scheme and limited-time campaigns offering higher rewards for vulnerabilities found in new feature launches. OpenAI also said researchers who reported a vulnerability in the 30 days before the change will receive the difference between the previous and new rates retroactively.

OpenAI is also preparing a security sprint in which security firm Cathedral will work with the company’s engineers to test its systems. During the previous sprint, 25 percent of OpenAI’s product engineers took part in searching for vulnerabilities, according to the company.
