OpenAI is acquiring Pierre Computer Company, the startup behind Code Storage and several open-source tools whose libraries already power the Codex coding agent. The companies say the deal is intended to help Git-based workflows keep pace as developers and AI agents write code side by side.

Pierre’s tools include Trees, which supports fast navigation through project files; Diffs, which displays code changes and allows users to fix bugs in the diff view; and Highlights, a real-time syntax highlighter for code written by developers or generated by an AI agent. Its Code Storage product stores code and tracks its history through Git.

OpenAI says agents are taking on more tasks in parallel, increasing the need for tools that support collaborative work between people and AI. The company already operates Pando, its own version-control backend designed for developers and agents.

Pierre’s open-source projects will remain open source. The acquisition is still subject to regulatory approval.
